What You Should Look For When Inspecting Your Golf Carts

Jul 27, 2022

It's important to perform routine checks for your golf cart if you want to extend its lifespan. With over 12,000 golf carts sold in 2021 according to Global Market Insights, it's clear that cart maintenance shouldn't be ignored. While some issues are specific to the time of year or style of the cart, there are some general checks you can always perform. Here are a few things to look out for during your inspection.

Seasonal Items

Golf cart maintenance is largely season-dependent. For instance, if your golf cart is electric, you need to check the battery after winter to ensure that it's still operational. If you've winterized the cart, there shouldn't be any problems. You should also check your tires for sidewall cracks. During the spring and summer months, you'll just need to inspect tires, rims, and the cart's suspension. You should also check underneath the cart to see if there are oil leakages. Don't forget to check for missing hardware and worn-down components, as well!

Electric Components

It's quite important to check the electric components of your cart. This includes checking speed controls and the reverse warning buzzer, as these mechanisms help keep the cart and passengers safe. As you inspect the steering, make sure the steering wheel isn't too loose. If it is, you should have the cart serviced as soon as possible. You must also check the battery for signs of corrosion. If you have an electric golf cart, battery checks will be very important. Lastly, you may want to check the brake pads and the cables to verify that there is no excessive wear and tear.

Gasoline Engines

If you own a gas golf cart, have the gasoline engine inspected about twice a year. There are certain parts that should be replaced occasionally, and a mechanic can help you with that. The spark plugs, for instance, are a common part that is often replaced every three years or so. You must also check the fuel and air filters. Ideally, you must replace these annually. You must also check the drive belt regularly to ensure that it doesn't have cracks or missing chunks.

These are just a few things you need to check on your golf cart during your inspections. It's important to keep a checklist of all the things you need to check so you don't end up with issues prematurely. Do you need help with golf cart maintenance?
